Zundapp K800 - Ignition Distributor
Newly developed ignition system including complete distributor for the pre-war Zündapp K800 four cylinder engines.
Contactless, maintenance-free electronics built into a new distributor housing.
The ignition is simply inserted in place of the old ignition distributor; the appearance corresponds to the original condition.
Replaces the old distributor mechanics and brings modern technology to the classic bikes.
This means that they can be driven in everyday use and do not require the constant, tricky readjustment of contacts and ignition.
- Works with existing on-board 4-15 Volts,
- max. ignition advance of ~35° at 3100 rpm
Delivery content:
- K800 - Electronic Ignition Distributor, with cabling
- Distributor Cap
- Distributor Finger
- Drive Wheel
- preset K800 Ignition Curve
Installation instructions:
- Switch off ignition, remove air filter and engine covers.
- Bring the first cylinder (front right) to TDC.
- Remove the distributor cap, your finger should then be at around 10 o'clock (viewed from above in the direction of travel).
- Disconnect the connecting cable, remove the old distributor, but do not adjust the engine/crankshaft position.
- Unscrew the black rubber stopper at the front of the new distributor and remove the distributor cap.
- Align the new distributor finger in the 10 o'clock position (see point 3).
- Then carefully insert the distributor into the engine housing opening, turn the shaft with the gear slightly back and forth so that the distributor/engine gears mesh with each other and the distributor shaft sits completely on the engine block.
- Wire the red wire on the ignition coil to battery plus, terminal 15, DO NOT connect the black wire yet.
- Switch on ignition. When the LED on the circuit board lights up (seen from above or through the opening at the front), turn the distributor housing clockwise until the LED turns off.
- Now turn the distributor housing counterclockwise until the green LED just lights up. While rotating the housing, keep the distributor finger pressed in the same direction to avoid any play in the drive.
- Turn off the ignition and fully secure the distributor. Screw in the rubber plug at the front, carefully put on the distributor cap and only fasten it with the spring clips once the locking lug on the cap has been precisely positioned. Otherwise the cap will sit at an angle, which will destroy your finger and cap!
- Connect the black cable to the ignition coil (minus = terminal 1), connect the ignition cable to the distributor cap in the correct order (1-4-2-3, clockwise).
- Reinstall the engine covers and air filter.
- Ready, go!
Tech Tip:
It is advisable to use an ignition coil with at least 1 ohm resistance in the primary circuit (between terminals 1 and 15).
Older ignition coils with lower resistance are not compatible with the K800 distributor. This can lead to malfunction/total failure.
Ignition cables with a copper core are not suitable for use with ignition distributors and can cause malfunctions.
Matching high-performance ignition cables with a carbon fiber core, wrapped in fine stainless steel wire, ensure optimal function.
