CATE Rear Load Carrier for Hobby and Leisure - General Infos
Load Capacity
- The load capacity of the CATE carrier set is calculated at 300 kg.
However, the specified maximum system load on the vehicle (150-300 kg) is vehicle-specific and is determined by the chassis of the transporting vehicle.
Additional weights (extensions, accessories) and permissible axle loads of the vehicle also have an influence and can limit the maximum system load capacity on the respective vehicle.
- The specified load capacity does not include the vehicle's own weight. This does NOT need to be deducted. The load capacity is therefore the actual payload.
Attachment / Power Supply
- The attachment of the adapter set to the cars chassis (receptacle for the basic carrier) is similar to that of a trailer hitch.
- The adapters are screwed to the mounting points of the hitch or mounted in addition to an existing hitch.
- Towbar and CATE motorcycle rack can both be used, just not at the same time.
- The socket of an already installed hitch is sufficient for the electrical 12V power supply of the light strip.
For vehicles without hitch, the power supply must be provided from the vehicle side.
- After installing the carrier, including the transport floor and motorcycle kit, the tailgate of the vehicle can be opened.
However, this is not possible when the vehicle is loaded, when using the bike rails, or when the rear protection bar is installed.
- The curb weight of the vehicle and permissible axle loads must be taken into account and can affect the maximum load of the carrier.
Safety Requirements / Legal Regulations (according to german laws, abroad regulations may vary)
- A technical report from TÜV Süd and detailed assembly instructions are included (in german only) in the scope of delivery.
- Depending on the vehicle, a TÜV demonstration / entry of the accessory in the vehicle documents may be required.
- The total width of the loaded carrier on the vehicle must not exceed 300 cm.
- Requires the attachment of a third license plate (repeat license plate) to the carrier.
- Requires the attachment of yellow reflectors or side marker lights to the car, if the vehicle, including the rear carrier,
exceeds a total length of 6 meters. Your technical inspection center can provide information on this.
Car Driving Behavior with mounted CATE Set
- When the CATE carrier is mounted and loaded, the driving behavior may change (weight shift to the rear).
- There is a speed limit of 130 km/h (according to german laws, abroad regulations may vary),
however we recommend adjusting your speed to the road conditions.
Accessories / Load Securing
- Our accessories expand the possible applications of the load carrier system and increase transport safety.
- The use of the rear protection bar is recommended as this allows secure attachment of motor- or bicycles.
- Load must only be secured with lashing straps approved by the carrier manufacturer. Lashing must only be done using the surrounding tube of the base carrier. The tabs in the base carrier corners are solely for optional floor mounting. They MUST NOT be used for securing loads!
